Dale interviews… Dave Cross!

Hey everybody!

Today I’m posting an interview with someone I’ve never officially met, but have respected for a really long time. Dave Cross has got some ridiculous Photoshop skills! I look forward to his WPPI talk so he can, once again, wow me! Be sure to read through and then check out some of Dave’s after shots. Oh, by the way, his #6 answer is awesome!

1) Advice for photographers who are attending WPPI for the first time:
Make friends with veteran WPPI attendees and ask them for advice! Come with a bit of a plan as to the kind of things you want to learn/products you want to see, but be ready for anything. And of course, be a sponge.

2) Without giving too much away, what’s your talk gonna be about at the MpixPro booth at WPPI?
In a nutshell, work smart with Photoshop.

3) What inspires you creatively? Do you constantly look at the world and think, “I can fix that in Photoshop!”?
I’m inspired by the possibilities that Photoshop gives you, to create things that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. So I don’t really think “I can fix it in Photoshop”, but I’ve often thought “wow, I can’t wait to play with that image in Photoshop”

4) MpixPro has some pretty sweet products. What do you love?
It seems like every time I try a new mpix product, it becomes my favorite :). For example, I just received a statuette for the first time the other day, and it was great – and everyone who saw it loved it! And I always get comments and compliments about a metallic print I have hanging in my home.

5) Do you have any unique uses for MpixPro products?
Just recently I used a statuette as a centerpiece for a memorial for a friend who had passed away recently. She had always wanted to go to the Oscars so we made a statuette and made our own mini red carpet complete with velvet ropes. Again, everyone just loved it!

6) Outside of photography for a second… what do you love to do?
For the last 18 years or so I’ve had a somewhat unique hobby: singing in a barbershop chorus. There’s nothing quite like 4-part a capella harmony!

7) Best advice or words of encouragement for a new professional:
Today there are so many amazing resources for new professionals, especially the many incredibly generous pros who share their experiences through their blogs. I’ve met so many wedding and portrait photographers who are happy to offer advice to new professionals. Don’t be afraid to ask!

Couldn’t find a better speaker for your booth! I love Mpix’s service and fast turnaround. I have about 4 or 5 orders coming in the next 2 days. Dave has some very pretty models here.
