Simplifying Lightroom with Brett Jarnagin

Brett Jarnagin is a portrait and wedding photographer who has traveled the world teaching off-camera flash and business development to photographers. He also is the creator of the Lightroom™ Retouching Toolkit and Life. Camera. Actions., both of which help thousands of photographers in over 30 countries.

When I first began my career as a photographer, I relied heavily on Photoshop Elements 2.0 for my editing needs. It was a pretty basic program but at 18, the free disk that came with my camera was all I could afford. I spent night after night digging into the program, learning the ins and outs of the extensive world of editing. My OCD (as well as my passion for helping my fellow photographers) led me to create Life. Camera. Actions., a complete workflow tool that has been used by thousands of photographers around the world. In the past few years, I made the switch to Lightroom because I have found the overall workflow to be more efficient than Photoshop.

In the video below, you will learn how to apply tilt-shift and sun flare effects to your images using the gradient tool as well as retouch your photos with the Lightroom™ Retouching Toolkit that was released earlier this year. The LRT includes 48 brushes that make it easy for you to retouch skin, enhance eyes, whiten teeth, and so much more.

I haven’t used Lightroom yet but am very interested. I use a version of GIMP and it has met my needs so far. I’ve read articles on Lightroom and become more drawn to it every time I read about it. As an amateur photographer, I have to pick amongst the tools available because of expense. I love reading about this program and would like to own it one day.

  10. I’ve been using LR for a while now to speed up my process, however I’m still doing 50/50 between LR and Photoshop, looking forward to doing much more in LR!!!! Love the idea of these presets

Loved the tricks shared in the video! My tip: When doing in-person ordering – to compare several images side-by-side, select your images, then simply hit Shift N, which will open all the selected images in a new window. You can also star/rate them in this window as well. 🙂

Thank you for the chance to win! I am new to lightroom, actually bought it about a year ago and haven’t found the ambition to try to learn it until last month. I need all the help I can get!
